This citation from Simon Sinek’s “The Infinite Game” made me think about who’d be my worthy rival?
Although I’m not a “one-man business” like Simon, I’m still some kind of a “personal business,” like every single one of us: we produce daily, we sell every day, although often our produce is mass-purchased by a single buyer, and we’re awarded a monthly salary for that. We get a fair price for our produce (it’s a fair price because both sides agreed on it!), and we move forward to the next day. But to grow, we need our “Worthy Rival”!
A “Worthy Rival” would be this single person to which it would be easy for me to compare myself.
I had a good thought on that. And I failed to identify such a person. Primarily because of the lack of information: I would not be able to measure myself against anyone since I’m producing (mostly) a “monthly salary” product. Not books or talks, like Simon and his rival.
But the concept of this “worthy rival” is fascinating. I, like everyone around, often compare myself to the success of others. But it’s like “mass compare,” not just being focused on a single person or even a single group. The achievements of people around me often drive me to do a course that does not *feel comfortable* according to my gut feeling or to challenge myself with whatever other crazy thing might come as an opportunity.
Do you have your “Worthy Rival”?
